Second Encounters

Immerse yourself at the meeting place of two different cultures and explore the history through hands on experiences to gain insight into First Nations people experiences of settlement and compare ways of knowing, being and doing between these two cultures. 

• Understand the importance of Country and Place to Aboriginal people, their relationship with the land and uses of plants for food, medicine and shelter. 
• Learn how settlement affected relationships, food collection and shelter sources for the Dharawal people. 
• Get a hands-on experience using artefacts and stories to gain insight into First Nations peoples experiences of settlement and compare ways of knowing, being and doing between these two cultures. 

• Investigate the sustainable land management practices of the local Aboriginal community. 
• Understand the effects of British colonisation in Australia. 
• Collecting and representing data to describe features of a place. 
• Storytelling and interactive play to explore historical concepts from a range of perspectives.
