5 tips for your perfect garden wedding

You know the perfect spot and you have the date booked in. Most likely, you have everything planned or near too, but here are a few things you need to think about in preparation for your amazing day:

So you really wanted a spring wedding when all the flowers are in bloom but have you thought about allergies of your guests (or your wedding party for that matter). Be sure to have an emergency kit carried by one of the wedding party or parents of the couple with items like anti-histamine to relieve sneezing or itchy eyes.

If it’s a summer wedding, think about how you’ll keep your guests hydrated during the ceremony – it can get hot, and you want your guests passing out with joy, not heat exposure.

Winter wedding? Think about the possibility of hiring some gas heaters. Autumn….well no wonder this time of year is becoming the most popular time of year for nuptials, there are no real issues.

No matter what the season, rain is always a possibility. Does the ceremony location have a wet weather back up you can hire? What about a temporary gazebo? If going down that path, be sure you have something that will stand up to all sorts of rainfall.  

Garden weddings are so romantic so to ensure yours is one to remember, think about the fabrics you’ll be wearing. Light fabrics like chiffons will not deal well with wind. Be sure to let your hair stylist know you are outdoors so they can ensure the style you decide on will work in the outdoor environment.

While styling your wedding from head to toe is certainly the trend at the moment, the beauty of an outdoor wedding is that Mother Nature has done all the hard work for you. You will still need to think about things like chairs for your guests, signing table and perhaps minimalist arbour. Often ceremony locations are able to supply these or recommend a good supplier.

Getting the wedding licence is always top of mind, but if you are getting married in a park or public space such as the Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney or another gorgeous garden like the Blue Mountains Botanic Garden Mount Tomah or the Australian Botanic Garden Mount Annan, you will need a permit to conduct your “I do’s” so be sure to research what is required.

Above all remember this day is about you, so be sure to tell all the people involved in your day – venues, caterers, stylists (and parents) – exactly what you want and what your vision is. Most of them want nothing more than to ensure the most memorable day for you.
