Getting to the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney

The Royal Botanic Garden Sydney is located in a spectacular position, approximately one kilometre from Sydney's city centre, wrapped around Sydney Harbour and adjacent to the Sydney Opera House.

You can enter the Garden through any of our 13 gates. Check the map to see which gate is best for you.


Public transport

Bus

The 441 route departs from the York Street side of Queen Victoria Building and drops off near the Art Gallery. Returns to Queen Victoria Building, picking up outside the Art Gallery.

The 200 route from Chatswood to Bondi stops on Macquarie Street during peak hours on weekdays.

Train

St James, Martin Place and Circular Quay stations are all about a 10-minute walk.

Ferry

Enjoy a relaxing ferry ride to Circular Quay. The Garden is an easy 10-minute walk from the wharves.

Parking

Meter parking

24-hour meter parking is available on Mrs Macquaries Road and Hospital Road.

Parking rates are:

  • Monday to Sunday, 8am to 8pm, 12P, $9/hour
  • Monday to Sunday, 8pm to 8am, 12P, $5/hour

 

Parking payments are cashless and can be made via:

  • the PARK'nPAY mobile app; or
  • a credit card at the parking meters on site.

Parking stations

There are several car parks near the Garden. The closest are the Domain Car Park and The Wharf Wolloomooloo Car Park, both of which can be booked in advance online.

Motorcycles

The rules related to motorcycle parking in the Royal Botanic Garden Sydney differ to those of the City of Sydney.

The Garden has 25 clearly marked, dedicated motorcycle parking spaces which are free of charge and not time limited. If you're on a motorcycle and choose to park in a marked, metered space, you're required to pay for the parking and observe the time limits for that area.

Bicycles

Bicycle parking is available along Art Gallery Road.

Buses

Drop-off and pick-up zone on Art Gallery Road near the front of the Art Gallery but no dedicated parking spaces.


Deliveries and pickups

Reception is open between 9:30am and 4:30pm Monday to Friday for deliveries and collections. Public access is through the pedestrian gate off Mrs Macquaries Road.

If Reception is closed, items can be left in the grey cupboard to the left of the entrance.
